Year 9 student Asher Ben received a Special Schools Prize for Science at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory recently

Thursday 3rd December 2009

Year 9 student Asher Ben travelled to Rutherford Appleton Laboratories in Oxfordshire recently to receive a Special Schools Prize for Achievement in Science.  Prizewinners were given an insight into the work carried out at RAL, before the ceremony.

Asher Ben commented, "The whole place was like a small city!  Security was very tight.  I went into the exhibition hall where there were displays telling us about the things theydid there including astronomy, particle physics, nuclear physics, laser physcis and micro-electronics.  Afterwards we heard two lectures and we were all encouraged to pursue a career in science.

After the lectures it was time to receive our prizes.  I received a certificate and a list of recommended books.  I loved the whole experience - it is an amazing place."
